About the Mothman Festival

The Mothman Festival was started in 2002 by Jeff Wamsley, Carolin Harris and the community of Point Pleasant, West Virginia. It was started as a response of the enthusiasm of the entity known as "The Mothman" and the buzz that surrounded it.

The festival commemorates the events in the 1960's in which the elusive moth-like humanoid creature dubbed "Mothman" showed up in the small town of Point Pleasant. The "invasion" of the Mothman ended on December 15, 1967 with the collapse of the old Silver Bridge and the tragic deaths of 46 people.

Since 2001, the Festival has grown exponentially. Annually, roughly over 250,000 visitors come to Point Pleasant to explore the TNT Area and try to spot the elusive creature. This year (2010) we are expected to have over 5,000 people come to the annual festival.

The Mothman has inspired numerous books, movies, documentaries from people all over the world who has sighted it, or haven taken a particular interest in Cryptozoology.
